Frequently Asked Questions:

A question mark representing how it is common to have questions before starting therapy. An Asheville, NC therapist answers common questions people ask when they’re thinking about starting psychotherapy services.
  1. What are your fees?

    • This depends on if you are paying out of pocket or going through insurance, and which clinician you are working with. If you have insurance, see question #2. If you are paying out of pocket, Mike’s fee is $160 per 50-minute session, all other clinicians are between $130 and $140. We do offer some sliding scale options for people with financial limitations.

  2.  Do you accept insurance?

    • Yes! If you have BCBS, Aetna, or Medcost, all of us are in network and you will only be responsible for paying your copay as long as your deductible has been met. If you have any other insurance, you may be eligible for reimbursements if you have out-of-network benefits. We retain a 3rd party billing company that can make this process very simple at no cost to you. If you are eligible for reimbursement, they will handle all of the paperwork for you, and you will receive checks from your insurance company

  3. What is a typical session like?

    • We work hard to custom tailor sessions to each individual. Some people prefer more structure, while some people want the session to be more free-flowing. Depending on what works for you, a typical session might look something like this: when you come in, we spend a few minutes talking about how you’re doing and how your week went. Next, we collaborate on setting an agenda for what we want to work on or talk about in the session, and reflect on any goals that we are currently working towards. Then we will go over any therapy homework you had from last week before getting into the agenda items. When working on the agenda items, we will balance between talking about things and actually practicing skills and tools to address the issue. At the end of the session, we will recap before deciding what the homework will be for the next week. Finally, you are welcomed to provide any feedback on the session, this way we can keep improving how we work together!

  4. What type of therapy are you trained in?

  5. What if I don’t know what I want out of therapy? OR I’m not even sure I really need therapy.

    • That’s perfectly normal, and it’s part of our job to help you figure that out. The first step in therapy, after we have gotten to know each other a little, is for us to help you set goals for what you would like your life to look like. We also offer a free phone consultation to see if what I offer would be the right fit for you.
