Therapy for Men’s issues
with Will Jordan, LCMHCA
What does it mean to be a man?
This question can be more challenging to answer than you might imagine. Cultural ideas of masculinity are shifting and individual concepts of what it means to “be a man” vary greatly from person to person. Sometimes, your concept of being a man can change as you age, or as your life situation changes. Basically, it is up to you to decide what it means to be a man. However, it isn’t necessarily easy to define what kind of man you want to be due to the variety of issue’s we face. Sometimes we have to go back to the drawing board to rethink our concept of masculinity. Other times we have to confront past notions of masculinity that we learned before that don’t work for us anymore. That’s where counseling comes in. There is value in having the space and support to explore how to be the man you want to be. We can help.
Men’s Issues to explore in counseling
Everyone has a different idea of what it means to be a man. Everyone faces different challenges. When you come to counseling, we will work together to understand what Men’s Issues to focus on. Your experience in therapy will be your own, meaning that I will not pre-judge you and I will tailor my counseling approach to your specific goals and needs. Here are some possible topics that we could work on together:
Relationship Roles
Communication Strategies
Breaking Patterns
Creating New Patterns
Understanding Emotions
How to Give and Receive Support
Unhealthy Masculinity
Creating More Meaningful Relationships
Sex and Intimacy
It can be hard to discuss these topics. When you come to counseling, we will immediately focus on creating trust so that you can feel the freedom to express your thoughts without being judged. You deserve to have a space in your life to focus on yourself and discuss how you want to live your life.
There is a path forward to become who you want to be.
If you want to change, change is possible. If you want to work on yourself, you can. I’ve worked with many men who entered counseling feeling stuck, broken, or confused. These men have put in the work and have proven that counseling can work. I have worked with men to redefine themselves, revive their relationships, and renew their confidence in themselves. If this is something that you relate to, then give us a call.
I know how counseling for Men’s Issues works from a personal perspective. I have been a client and worked through issues myself related to my concept of “being a man”. Through counseling, I became more self-aware, learned to communicate more effectively, and I learned how to maintain healthier relationships. I can relate to the process of seeking counseling for Men’s Issues.
Learn skills to help you navigate the experience of being a man
It can be challenging to put into words the thoughts and feelings that describe the complex experience of being male. We will work to build common language to support you in defining your personal experience. We may also work on expanding your ability to communicate these thoughts with others. We will work to grow your awareness of your internal process of being male and to help you notice and reflect more on your own experience. You will learn skills that help you identify your patterns of behavior and thought. Then you will learn skills to help change the unhealthy patterns. Counseling for Men’s Issues can support you to become the person you want to be. Together we can work on these skills to help you make this happen.
